Ashley Rebecca King grew up in Pittsburgh, PA and believes this is the source of her unique approach to life. She studied acting, music and dance in New York City, where she now resides with her husband and many plants. As an actress, Ash has appeared in productions both big and small, on stage, on screen and online. She gets cast as animals a lot, including The Cat in the Hat. One of her favorite memories is her first tour because she met her future spouse and got to see the Grand Canyon.
An accomplished musician, Ash has composed music and arrangements for many shows in NYC, including the mad-scientist cabaret "Elixir" in which she played a robotic pianist, and the original musical "Ghost Bros" in which she played a "bro." She performs regularly with writing partner, Gregory von Portz (Moon Pools, In a Polynesian Mood & Backlash) and the duo has been recommended by Time Out New York, the Village Voice and the New York Times. They recently completed their first novel, "Moon Pools: Kindness is Edgy," based on their sold-out performances, and you can order it here. Other frequent collaborators include these extraordinary individuals and groups: The RSTC in NYC, designer Viktor Luna, writer/actor/director etc, David Beck, puppet-master Brian Soliwoda, the inexplicably talented duo Jen Jurek & Nick Enna, and, of course, the unstoppable Graham McCarty.
As a professional mascot, Ashley has performed at many events, including the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, as characters you would recognize but won't be listed here for the sake of saving illusions. Her musical "Pigeons: A Musical Fable of New York" was chosen for the first annual "Scene It: New York" contest and an excerpt was performed at the Jerry Orbach Theater in NYC. She is currently working on a collection of sailor songs and a middle-grade novel. She is proud to volunteer with Musicians On Call, bringing music to hospital rooms around NYC. She is also a lover of comic books and hopes to one day be a Jedi.
